Toulon is one of the French Riviera's most underrated cruise calls. Ships berth along the waterfront; the Vieille Darse, Old Town lanes and Cours Lafayette market are typically reachable on foot or a brief shuttle — often around 10–20 minutes depending on berth, pace and route.
Follow terminal signage toward the city centre rather than wandering the working port. Most berths place you within a sensible walk of the historic harbour.
Shuttle arrangements vary by cruise line and berth assignment. When a shuttle runs, it usually drops near the waterfront or Old Town edge — confirm on arrival rather than assuming.
Toulon rewards an independent city day unusually well. Cassis, Bandol and deeper Provence are separate full-day journeys requiring road time and different timing.
Always plan backwards from all-aboard. Aim to be back at the terminal 60–90 minutes early for a city day; longer Provence excursions need the larger end of that buffer.
